Post Subject: Web Host Rating Site
Posted on: Apr 30, 2008
Here's a cool sire I stumbled across for all our members considering doing some web hosting. Web Hosting Pal Ranks other hosting companies and includes information on what they charge monthly, bandwidth limits, and storage space. They also even offer a few beginers guides to help get you started.
I also wanted to give you guys a link to their Top 10 Page.
It looks like the site operates on an affiliate basis and I'll be honest, thats not something I can hold against them since everyone needs to make a little money some how. The only thing I see the site lacking in are user reviews of the hosts. Other than that, they seem to cover a lot of the bigger things to look at when purchasing hosting.
The site also looks fairly new so I think we can expect to see some improvement in the future. At the bottom of the Top 10 Page page there are what look like links for organizing your hosting preferences based on cost, environment, focus of the hosting, and even based on the user menu system. This is something that I really think is a great idea since anyone who gets into programming knows that they have fairly specific needs when it comes to hosting.
So if anyone is looking for hosting, you might want to check out the Web Hosting Pal site. Also if you guys have any questions on hosting and things to look for and just explanations of what different things are that you might see in hosting packages, feel free to let me know and I'll answer as many questions as I can. dunno I get more space and bandwidth out of 1and1, I have 120 gigs of web space and 1200 gigs of bandwidth along with up to 1200 2 gig e-mail accounts for at stock $64 a year.
yeah i was a bit suprised that 1and1 wasn't on there. personally I think 1and1 is alright but i've had my problems with them in the past. Their prices vs what you get is very hard to beat, but their techs are idiots and when you have down time, they won't tell you much.
my favorite so far was emailing them to see if they run a commonly supported php library. The first response was, "no we don't" then a few days later a second response saying, "well, actually we do carry it" lol. They're great if you never have any problems.

yea, kinda like when I was trying to transfer my .com to them from godaddy, they needed identification to verify that I was who I said I was and when I faxed it to them I guess someone screwed up big cause I got more e-mails with the info for sending my verification and upon inquiring wtf was going on I get told they lost my identification I sent them.....so needless to say I was pissed as hell an told them if anything happened and my identity was ever stolen I would be pointing my lawyer at them first, so the transfer and loss of identity are the only actual problems I've had with them albeit the one is definitely a doozy.
