VS3251 - 5.1 Surround
Author: faceless105 -- Posted: 2007-04-09
Performance, Power, and Functionality is what we are all really looking for in our audio equipment. Altec Lansing had this in mind when they built their 5.1 surround sound, the VS5321.

When I look for a speaker system I obviously want a system better then the guy in the room next to mine so I want something a bit powerful. When I first plugged this system in, I wasn't disappointed. The bass is great, and you really can feel it.

The next key feature that I look for is functionality. Sure any speaker system will play your music but I always want to go above the core functions. This is where I'm really impressed by this system.

With a wireless remote you can control specific channels, like the rear speakers or even the sub woofer. There is also a convenience factor with it. My old speakers only had volume controls for all the channels individually. This system features a master volume control on both the remote as well as the sub woofer.

These speakers are also made for many different functions. You can run them in stereo mode or surround mode. Now you're probably thinking, "Why would I want to change between those settings!?" With this system there is the option to have an auxiliary input. So if you get tired of listening to your computer, you can hook up your CD player and with the hit of a single button flip over to a second input source.

The speakers are also tailored for superior functionality. With wall mounts there things can be placed anywhere. And since this is part of their gaming series of speakers, they are shielded, so your computer monitor won't be affected by the magnetic fields.

Finally it's time for the sub woofer. Now I've mentioned a few points of interest along the way, such as the amazing bass and the auxiliary input but there is of course more. Most all computers have a connection for headphones on the back of the computer but that's incredibly convenient. This system has a nice head phone jack right on the front of the sub.

My first hand experience with these has been just great. I'd first like to say that if you haven't used surround sound before, you really should. Especially for gaming, it's great to hear a gunshot and know what direction it came from. This really does go far to let you feel like your in the game.

Now for the new experience from these speakers is the excellent quality. The sound is just crystal clear and it has honestly been a pleasure to use them. The additional functionality of a master volume control, headphone hook-up and even the aux-in has been so nice to have. I can honestly say that these are features that I won't go without in the future.

I recommend that all of you check out the VS3251 5.1 surround system. They are very competitively priced. They offer high performance as well as some real great functionality. I'd also like to thanks Altec Lansing for giving me the opportunity to review this product, it has been a real pleasure.

As always I'd love to field any questions you guys have. I'm always up for a good discussion :)
